Shirland, Morton and Stonebroom Circular - All Trails

Another lovely All Trails walk which we decided should include a childs worksheet to tick all the farm animals you see. To summarise, we saw the usual cows, horses and sheep but also donkey, pig, alpaca, goat, and chickens. We started (and finished) in Shirland near the church.

The walk is relatively easy and described in All Trails as ‘8.7-km loop trail near Alfreton, Derbyshire. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 0 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking, running, and walking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring.’ We saw very few people but it is clearly well used as there were no nettles except for one small section. Underfoot it was easy walking too as we have had very little rain recently, and we were comfortable in walking boots rather than light shoes. It was a great walk for the pooch on the lead with only one field to walk through with cows. All the other paths were fenced off from the animals.

Despite living locally for many years I hadn’t realised how pretty Morton village centre is with it’s stone houses, pub and church. We also walked through a fantastic children’s play area.
